Ferried is a character led, dramatic short film about loneliness in older people; it shows what one man’s kindness can do for another.
As the number of older people grows and care budgets shrink, more and more older people are facing later life alone. Of the 11 million older people in the UK, 1 million see friends or family only once a month and 5 million consider television to be their main form of company.
Ferried aims to show that meaningful relationships with older people are incredibly important for all concerned. We hope it will get more people involved with the great work charities are doing in the space. Or even just give their grandparents an extra call…
Not able to get out on his own any more, Michael is thoroughly individual and (though he wouldn’t dare admit it) intensely lonely. He relies on a taxi to take him into town, but the taxi service isn’t reliable, until Ahmed enters. Ahmed is almost intrusively easy-going, and treats Michael like a friend to be made, rather than an obstacle, as most of the world sees him (when he’s in public).
Ferried is a portrait of their friendship as it develops, Michael only learning late on how much it means to him.
Richard Cordery will be playing Michael. He is a wonderful actor with – and I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this – years of experience on stage, television and screen. His film credits include Les Miserables, About Time and the recent BBC adaptation of Esio Trot.
He is really excited to explore the role and how isolation can affect lonely older people. I’m sure that he will show us all what it feels like it feels like to be alone.
Navin Chowdhry will be playing Ahmed. He is a fantastic and versatile actor. You will have seen him in many shows including Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders and Teachers. He will bring the balance of compassion and humour that Ahmed needs to get Michael out of his shell.
“Ferried provides an artistic opportunity to highlight… how simple and life-changing the kindness of strangers can be.”
Sarah Caplin, Director of Policy & Communications, The Silver Line
“What Twice Cut Films are doing with Ferried really highlights the issue of loneliness in older people.”
